The SPD gives its ministerial posts named in the upcoming traffic light coalition. The Ministry of Health will take over Karl Lauterbach, as Olaf Scholz announced. Nancy Faeser will be the first home secretary.
Karl Lauterbach becomes newer Minister of Health. The SPD has confirmed this. The personnel had been discussed intensively for weeks after the SPD health expert had made a name for himself in public during the Corona. Many would have wished that, so Scholz at the introduction, and: “He will!” Lauterbach promised in a first statement to make the health system more robust and to prepare it for further pandemics.
That Home Office takes over Nancy Faeser, the head of the SPD in Hesse. She is the first female interior minister in the history of the Federal Republic. It is time to place this important office in the hands of a woman, said Federal Chancellor-designate Olaf Scholz.
Hubertus Heil remains, as expected, Minister of Labor and Social Affairs.
Christine Lambrecht, the previous Minister of Justice, is to become Minister of Defense. Security will be in the hands of “strong women”, said Olaf Scholz, referring to the allocation of departments to Faeser and Lambrecht.
The restored one Ministry of Construction will Klara Geywitz‘Scholz’ partner in the unsuccessful application for the SPD chairmanship. The ministry is supposed to deal with the pressing problem of the housing shortage, especially in the big cities, said Scholz.
