Sparifankerl Pass 2022 in downtown Munich on December 11 – Munich

The Munich group “Sparifankerl Pass” invites you again: Various traditional groups will make Marienplatz and the city center unsafe on December 11 with 400 Krampuses. The tradition is: Krampus, as Santa’s companion, punishes bad children. In other regions, the Perchten often take on the role, and the transition between Perchten and Krampus is also fluid in the Munich parade. Unlike in the past, a punishment in Munich is at best a harmless game. Things are sometimes even more serious in the country. In Bavaria, for example, the Buttnmandl run in Berchtesgaden is well known. Behind the whole thing is a pagan tradition, unlike that of St. Nicholas, who has Christian roots. It was about driving away evil spirits – and the tradition was so strong that it could not be quashed by new Christian customs. So that they were simply integrated into the Nicholas story.
