Spanish police dismantle drug trafficking ring by helicopter

Spanish police announced on Sunday that it had dismantled a drug smuggling ring suspected of using helicopters to smuggle hashish and marijuana destined for France from Morocco to Spain.

Police have arrested 11 people and are looking for 11 other suspects in France, Spanish police said in a statement.

Three helicopters seized

She says she seized, with the support of the French police and the EU agency Europol, 112 kilograms of marijuana, 2.4 tons of hashish, three helicopters, four firearms and ammunition.

The network reportedly used helicopters to transport drugs from Morocco to southern Spain, then to France in trucks and a bus with fake license plates.

Spain’s proximity to Morocco, a major producer of hashish, has made it an important entry point for drugs destined for Europe.
