Spanish mountaineer accidentally dies on Mont Blanc

A 31-year-old Spaniard died Tuesday morning when he had just reached the summit of Mont Blanc by the normal route. The tragedy occurred shortly before 10:15 am on the Bosses ridge, a sector located in the last part of the ascent at an altitude of 4,500 meters.

While the thirty-something began the descent with a group of three other climbers, the latter accidentally fell from a wall, indicates the Peloton de gendarmerie de haute montagne (PGHM) from Chamonix, in charge of the investigation. Unconnected with the other people in the group, the victim fell to his death for nearly 800 meters on the Italian side.

Several fatal accidents this summer

Unfortunately, accidents are not rare in the Mont Blanc massif. On August 8, a man was found dead after falling, while he was climbing alone in the ascent of Mont-Blanc. It was already the second fatal accident in a week.

In addition, the Chamonix high mountain gendarmerie (PGHM) platoon is looking for an American mountaineer whose family has not been heard from since Sunday, August 29. A call for witnesses to try to find him has been launched.
