Space record: Researchers discover what is probably the brightest spot in the universe – knowledge

Astrophysicists long thought the object was a star, but it is now clear: it is a black hole that devours the mass of a sun every day – and shines more brightly than it should actually.

You might think that finding the brightest point in the universe wouldn’t be that difficult. But if this point is very far away from Earth, it can easily be overlooked. This could comfort the astronomers who captured the point of light called J0529-4351 on photographic plates in 1980 but did not examine it in more detail. They thought the object was a bright star. The AI-based data analysis of the Gaia space telescope was no better in 2022 and classified the object as a Milky Way star with 99.8 percent certainty.
