Solène, a 22-year-old firefighter, killed in a road accident

She was on her way to the first aid station on Plouhinec beach. Assigned to lifeguarding swimming for the summer, Solène G. was going to meet her colleagues from the Morbihan Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS) when her life ended. Involved in a serious road accident in the town of Kervignac, near Lorient, the 22-year-old firefighter died, the SDIS announced in a press release.

According to our colleagues from West Francethe young woman was reportedly the victim of a head-on collision around 11 a.m. on the D170 near Lumelen. Solène G. was taken care of by emergency services and rushed to the Bretagne Sud hospital in Lorient. She succumbed to her injuries during the night from Saturday to Sunday. The three occupants of the other vehicle involved were slightly injured. An investigation has been opened to determine the circumstances of the collision.

The young woman was a medical student in the Army Health Service. She had been working as a volunteer firefighter on beach patrols in the summer for three years. “The SDIS 56 would like to pay tribute to the commitment and dedication of Solène, who, through her service, embodied the values ​​of solidarity, courage and altruism that drive our institution,” the firefighters responded, describing it as “a profound shock for all of her colleagues.”

The Morbihan SDIS was struck by another tragedy this weekend. The firefighters announced the death “in a private capacity” of a firefighter assigned to the Lorient rescue center, sharing their “most sincere thoughts” with his family, loved ones and colleagues.
