It’s news that should actually be taken for granted in times of “man bun”: Alexander of Sweden (7) now wears his long, wild and curly hair differently. The eldest of Sofia (38) and Carl Philip of Sweden (43) shows courage with his style from an early age. His parents support the prince. However, the royal fan community is skeptical.

Last weekend, Carl Philip, Sofia, Alexander and Prince Gabriel (5) visited the opera. Shortly after his seventh birthday, Alexander presented for the first time at an appointment, which was already evident in his parents’ congratulatory photo: the grandson of King Carl Gustaf (76) and Queen Silvia (79) wears his long hair in a braid . For several years it has been noticeable that Alexander likes to let his long and curly hair grow.
The royal offspring was often seen with a cool beanie hat or a baseball cap – now the seven-year-old has discovered hair ties for himself. Certainly not a problem for mom Sofia and dad Carl Philip, after all, the couple chose a picture for the boy’s day of honor on April 19, on which Alexander’s new hairstyle was perfectly visible. When visiting the opera, Sofia literally stood behind her son.
However, in the comments under the Instagram post of the “Prinsparet” it is clear: Alexander’s transformation is not well received everywhere. What’s more, some of the comments are downright outrageous. “Is that a girl or a boy?” Was a follower’s question. “You should cut his hair,” commented another user. “Alexander looks just like a girl. I hope he’s fine,” the intolerant words of the next subscriber. The sad highlight in the comment column: “Nice boys, but the haircut is ridiculous. Let him cut his hair!”.

Luckily, at seven years old, Alexander is still too young to see the wild comments under the latest photo of the prince’s family. Mama Sofia has been campaigning for the safety of children on the Internet for many years and has even written a “Handbook for Internet Parents”. Their goal: the Internet should be a safe space for young people – without the danger of adult content and the glorification of violence.
When visiting the opera, Sofia showed how important the well-being of her little ones is to her. She gently placed her hands on her eldest’s shoulders, encouraging Alexander to wear his long hair in a ponytail. No question: With her recent family appearance, the princess has once again shown what a royal lion mother she is.
