Former US President Barack Obama and musician Bruce Springsteen discuss both politics and private matters in their joint podcast. In the “Tagesthemen” they express concern about the division in society.

Former US President Barack Obama (60) and musician Bruce Springsteen (72) are worried about the division in the US and Europe.

The two, who have been doing a joint podcast for several months, talked about this in an interview with the ARD “Tagesthemen”. “Unfortunately, things have come to the point in the United States that we are exposed to incredibly bizarre conspiracy theories and lies. This social division in the country is terrifying, ”said Springsteen. “It’s not just in the US, but in all of Europe,” added Obama.

“It was evident in Brexit or in the recent elections in Germany. The white population, and especially the white working class, feel they are losing ground, ”said the former US President. “Some of your worries and needs are justified. It has to do with globalization, with the shrinking manufacturing industry and the dwindling power of unions in the US. But what I always try to convey in my politics, and Bruce also in his music, is to understand that we all have this anger and resentment within us. “

Obama was President of the USA between 2009 and 2017 and then founded a production company with his wife Michelle. Springsteen has enjoyed worldwide success as a musician for decades. In February, the long-time friends started the podcast “Renegades: Born in the USA” on the audio provider Spotify, in which they talk about politics as well as private matters. A book of the same name is due to be published on Tuesday.
