Socialist deputies will reopen the debate in the Assembly in February

The Socialists take advantage of their “parliamentary niche” to submit again to the debate in the Assembly a tax on superprofits. They decided to start this day, on February 9, by examining a bill on this subject from the current First Secretary of the party Olivier Faure, according to the list of texts adopted in a group meeting.

This is the resumption of a joint proposal of Nupes, which could not be submitted to a referendum of shared initiative, the Constitutional Council judging that it did not meet the necessary conditions.

The tax would target large companies with a turnover of more than 750 million euros and profits more than 25% higher than the average of those made between 2017 and 2019, which would be taxed from 20% to 33% until at the end of 2025.

Eight texts on the program, a tight agenda

The Socialist deputies then planned to defend a motion for a resolution by Johnny Hajjar, for the creation of a commission of inquiry into the cost of living in the overseas departments and regions, and a text to ensure a meal to one euro in the Crous to all students, carried by Fatiha Keloua-Hachi.

The order of the text is important. The debates during the niches being interrupted at midnight, the texts placed at the head have a better chance of being discussed and put to the vote. However, the group has the strategic possibility of withdrawing texts if it wishes to speed up the debates. In all, eight texts will be presented.

If it is almost impossible for all the proposals to be examined in public session on February 9, for lack of time, they should at least be the subject of a preliminary examination in committee.
