Socialist Alain Rousset re-elected quite clearly

Outgoing president Alain Rousset (PS) was reelected quite clearly on Sunday evening for a fifth term with around 39.3% of the vote, according to initial estimates. If this score is confirmed, he would obtain an absolute majority and could do without the allies on his list (PCF and PRG).

Behind the outgoing president, we find the National Rally led by Edwige Diaz, which receives about 18.9% of the vote. “We are becoming for the first time in New Aquitaine the first opposition group to Alain Rousset”, reacted on the set of France 3 the candidate RN. In 2015, Alain Rousset, then at the head of a leftist list, had collected 44.27%.

The Greens in opposition

Nicolas Thierry (EELV) had collected 12.09% in the first round of regional elections. With this score, doubled compared to that of the first round of 2015 (5.60%), the environmental candidate had decided to do without an alliance in the between-rounds with the outgoing president, considered too little volunteer on ecological transition. In the second round, Nicolas Thierry’s score was around 14.3%, tied with the former mayor of Bordeaux Nicolas Florian (LR). It is the representative of the presidential majority Geneviève Darrieussecq (Modem-LREM-UDI) who arrives at the back of the pack with 13.2%.

The Greens win a few representatives in the chamber but go into the opposition they want “constructive”, book Monique de Marco, environmental senator from the Gironde. She believes that the group led by Nicolas Thierry should play a role of “ecological spur”.
