In the future, the Bundestag wants to give more insight into their work and the functioning of Parliament. Bundestag President Bas has got her own Instagram account.

The Bundestag is expanding its social media activities. This Wednesday, at the beginning of the first day of parliamentary sessions in the new year, an Instagram account will be launched by Bundestag President Bärbel Bas.

The opening video has already been shot. The aim is above all to reach younger target groups who no longer obtain information, or hardly at all, from traditional media.

According to the Bundestag administration, the SPD politician wants to give an insight into her work and the functioning of parliament on Instagram in the future. The articles are intended to provide information about their tasks, such as chairing Bundestag sessions or their work as the highest-ranking employer in the Bundestag administration. The social media editors will also accompany you to appointments at home and abroad. Impartiality and neutrality are mandatory.

Considerations for a Twitter account by the Bundestag were initially shelved after the turbulence caused by the purchase of the short message service by US multi-billionaire Elon Musk. The Bundestag only spreads news from its information service “heute im bundestag”, or hib for short, via Twitter. In the future, he will also do this via the Twitter competition platform Mastodon. The Bundestag also has a YouTube channel. On the other hand, he does not use TikTok.

For the expansion of the offer, the social media team was significantly strengthened. According to the Bundestag administration, there is now a separate department for this with 9.5 permanent positions, but not all of them have been filled yet. Previously, only two employees were responsible for this task.
