Students and technical students should only be able to apply for the 200 euros from mid-March – but it is unclear when the money will end up in the account.

The Young Liberals have criticized the delays in the energy price flat rate for students. “Young people in this country deserve more than such an unworthy spectacle,” said Chairwoman Franziska Brandmann of the editorial network Germany. Responsibility wrangling and jurisdictional disputes between federal and state governments in the education system have been at the expense of those most in need of support.

From March 15, students and technical students should be able to apply for the long-awaited 200 euro energy price flat rate. All federal states had agreed on a uniform start for this, the State Chancellery of Saxony-Anhalt announced yesterday. The federal state has developed the digital platform, which is to be used by around 3.5 million people who are entitled to apply nationwide. Some federal states want to test the process in real operation beforehand. It is still unclear when the money will actually be in the account of those affected.

Federal Education Minister Bettina Stark-Watzinger (FDP) had previously announced that the payment platform would be launched in the second half of February. The federal states are now responsible for implementing the energy price flat rate, she emphasized.
