Borussia Dortmund’s 4: 3 (1: 2) after falling three times at Bayer Leverkusen was probably the best and most entertaining game of this Bundesliga season so far, tearing the more than 17,500 spectators from their seats.

Florian Wirtz brought Bayer on Saturday (09/11/2021) early in the lead (9th minute) and also put on the 2: 1 by Patrik Schick (45th + 1). Moussa Diaby (55th) achieved Bayer’s third lead ten days after his international debut for world champions France. Nevertheless, Bayer suffered their first defeat of the season instead of their third win in a row.

Because the BVB first by striker Erling Haaland (37th), then by ex-Leverkusen player Julian Brandt (49th) and finally by free kick by Raphael Guerreiro (71st) three times. And Haaland scored his 13th goal in the ninth competitive game of this season for Dortmund and Norway after video evidence (77th). After the third win in the fourth game of the season, BVB coach Marco Rose will be able to cope with the fact that BVB has conceded nine goals for the first time in 30 years after four games.

Fireworks from the first minute

Both teams set off a small fireworks display from the first minute. And so the first goal fell early: The strong Paulinho captured the ball, served Wirtz, and the 18-year-old hit the ice cold with the pike. Wirtz had an unbelievable five goal participations after 43 minutes this season; three hits and two assists. The sixth followed at Schicks 2: 1.

Just two minutes later, however, they almost equalized. Brandt lifted the ball after Haaland’s pass over goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky, but just next to the goal. After that Bayer had three times the 2-0 through Schick (19th / 22nd) and newcomer Robert Andrich (31st). But then it was BVB’s turn. At first Brandt hesitated too long (31st), then Haaland headed in a cross from the hitherto hapless Thomas Meunier.

Bellingham’s hit is not recognized

112 seconds later, the guests cheered again when Jude Bellingham hit after a cross from Meunier and a header from Haaland. The goal was not valid because Mo Dahoud had previously fouled Diaby in midfield. Instead of a lead, BVB went into the cabin with a deficit after Brandt lost the ball.

Less than four minutes after the break, the eager, but often overzealous, Brandt rewarded himself after Haaland had passed. But the equalization lasted only six minutes. Because Diaby didn’t hit the ball properly after a corner – and then even better in the margin. But BVB never gave up and was of course lucky with a dubious free kick before equalizing and video evidence before the winning goal. The blow by Odilon Kossounou in the face of Marco Reus was punished rightly.

Dortmund in the Champions League

Next Wednesday (15.09.2021) Dortmund will have its first appearance in the Champions League, the opponent will then be in Turkey Besiktas Istanbul. Leverkusen sees Peter Stöger again the next day. The ex-coach of 1. FC Köln will then travel to the start of the Europa League as a coach from Ferencvaros Budapest. In the league, Leverkusen will play on the fifth match day on Sunday (19.09.2021, 3:30 p.m.) at VfB Stuttgart, Borussia Dortmund receives 1. FC Union Berlin at the same time.
