Wearing slippers is mandatory in many kindergartens, and not just for reasons of hygiene. Depending on the facility, parents are even told what kind of footwear their offspring should wear. If there are no fixed specifications, you can decide on the model yourself.

There are several reasons for bringing your own slippers to the kindergarten: On the one hand, the dirt from the street that many children wear under their everyday shoes is not distributed indoors. On the other hand, your children’s feet always stay warm, especially on cold autumn and winter days. In addition, the floor of a kindergarten often consists of smooth surfaces, which increases the risk of slipping. The question arises: what slippers are suitable for kindergarten? We’ll tell you.

These slippers are suitable for kindergarten

Most children’s slippers are made of natural materials such as Cotton and Wool – or off synthetic textiles such as felt. But are they automatically all equally suitable for kindergarten? The answer is yes, as long as the mini kicks meet the following criteria: The sole should always be non-slip so that your child does not fall when walking on slippery floors. It is also advisable to look for breathable fabrics so that little feet do not sweat too much when playing. It is also important that the slippers are robust and at the same time soft and flexible so that your child can move in them without restrictions. Closed models with Velcro or zippers are also recommended to make it easier for your child to put on and take off their shoes.

And another tip: With so many slippers in kindergarten, there is always a risk of confusion. To avoid your child wearing the wrong model (or another child wearing your child’s shoes), you should wear slippers with a Name tag Mistake. Alternatively, you can also write on the material with a waterproof pen.

Choice of motif: Slippers for children in comparison

While the material and texture of the slippers are important to parents, only one thing counts for most children: the color and/or the motif. In the following you will find a small selection of different models, which should make it easier for you to search for suitable kicks:

Which shoe size is right for my child?

Before you give your child a new pair of slippers felt or Cotton you should measure his feet – as they can grow very quickly when they are young (approx. one millimeter per month). To determine the correct fit, it is best to proceed as follows: Use a so-called foot gauge, which shows the exact size, and add twelve millimeters. On the one hand, this gives the feet enough space to roll off healthily when walking, and on the other hand, the slippers do not have to be replaced again in a few weeks.

Another tip: As an alternative to the foot measuring device, you can also make a template by hand from a piece of paper or some cardboard.
