The ski resorts of the Pyrénées-Orientales end their season this Sunday, March 26. Earlier than their forecasts, since some of them expected to end the season in mid-April. The high temperatures decided otherwise. A week after the Catalan Snows, the Cambre d’Aze, Formiguères or Puigmal, it is around Font-Romeu, Angles and Porté-Puymorens to lower the white curtain.
However, several of them broke attendance records. Like Font-Romeu, which set a new record with 515,000 passes sold. With peaks of more than 16,000 skiers per day on the 43 km of downhill skiing in the area (and 110 km of cross-country skiing). Especially during the week of Purissima, which corresponds to the holidays in Spain. “We are approaching 12,000 skiers/day, with an increase of 7% compared to our record season, it’s incredible. We did not imagine reliving a season as dense as last year ”, recently estimated Jacques Alvarez, director of Font-Romeu – Pyrénées 2000.
In the third resort in the French Pyrenees, the previous record dated from the 2021-2022 season, with a turnover of 14 million euros for the resort. An amount that does not include the very strong economic benefits for the entire economic sector. Hotels and restaurants also broke records.
