After the death of Mirco Nontschew, his former colleagues bow to him in a special way: they let the RTL classic return to the screen.

The early death of comedian Mirco Nontschew was the trigger for the one-off comeback of the show classic “RTL Saturday Night”. That’s what the comedian Esther Schweins said in a “Stern” interview. “The grief brought us together.”

The show “Saturday Night – The Goodbye” (from October 15th on RTL+; October 29th on RTL) is “our way of saying goodbye to Mirco”. Nonchev, who was a permanent member of the sketch show in the 1990s, died unexpectedly in December 2021 at the age of 52 in Berlin.

Wigald Boning said in the double interview about the changed humor: “When I watch repetitions today, I often think: You wouldn’t do it that way anymore.” However, it was good to address uncomfortable topics such as the double standards of the Catholic Church. “With “Saturday Night” we broke a whole series of taboos,” said Esther Schweins, who even annoyed her father because of the sketches about the Catholic Church. Then there was a long phone call. “My dad didn’t think it was that funny.”

The once very popular comedy show is to be seen as a gala show in the extra edition under the title “RTL Saturday night – the reunion” – with the stars of the original ensemble from 1993 to 1998. These include Schweins, Boning, Olli Dittrich , Stefan Juergens, Tanja Schumann, Tommy Krappweis and Mark Weigel.

“Saturday night – the reunion” can be seen from Saturday (October 15) on the streaming portal RTL +. In the approximately three-hour show, the comedy veterans appear and play new sketches, some in the roles of yesteryear. Viewers can look forward to parodies, music and sketches, including classics such as “Two Chairs – One Opinion”, “News from Spocht” and “Die Doofen”. According to earlier information, the evening show will be moderated by the then producer Hugo Egon Balder. The show will be broadcast linearly on RTL on October 29th.
