Singer Steven Tyler Injured, Band Takes Early Retirement

It’s a throat injury that abruptly ends a very big chapter in the history of American rock. On Instagram on Friday, Aerosmith announced its retirement.

It is a forced decision for the group in the middle of a farewell tour since September 2023. As explained West France“Steven Tyler, the singer and founding member of the legendary rock group, has been suffering from a throat injury since the start of the farewell tour.” The next concerts have therefore been cancelled.

A “heartbreaking decision”

“As you know, Steven’s voice is an instrument like no other,” the band wrote on Instagram. “He worked tirelessly for months to get it back to what it was before his injury.” But that wasn’t enough to secure upcoming North American dates. “We watched him (Steven Tyler) struggle with the best medical team around. Unfortunately, it’s clear that a full recovery from this injury is not possible,” the band said. “We’ve made the heartbreaking, difficult, but necessary decision […] to retire from the world of touring.”

Active since 1970 and known for example for the titles Walk This Way or Dream OnAerosmith wanted to thank its “best fans in the world” despite this bad news. Those who had tickets for the upcoming concerts will not be disadvantaged. They will be fully refunded.

Hellfest for the last French stage

Fans of the group will now have to make do with re-listening to the group’s albums like Get a Grip Or Nine Lives. They will also be able to think back to the Boston band’s previous concerts. As recalled West France“Aerosmith last set foot on French soil in 2017 for the Hellfest Festival” and in the world, their last concert “will have been that of the UBS Aera in Elmont, in the State of New York, on September 9, 2023”.
