Gymnastics superstar Simone Biles triumphed with the USA team at the Olympic Games in Paris, winning her fifth Olympic gold medal since 2016. The 27-year-old led her team to 171.296 points on Tuesday. This put the US team of Biles, Hezly Rivera, Jordan Chiles, Sunisa Lee and Jade Carey 5.502 points ahead of silver medalist Italy (165.494). Brazil came in third (164.497).
Simone Biles and Team USA win despite nervousness
The evening before the team final, Biles and her fellow competitors sat down together because they felt that there was nervousness in the team and therefore talked to each other. “We simply supported each other,” Biles reported. “We had the conversation and assured each other that we could rely on each other. What we are doing here is really hard and it is easier when we can lean on each other,” she said, according to dpa.
Her performance once again attracted numerous celebrities to the audience, including Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, who came to the gymnastics spectacle with their children.
