Should the screw be tightened further? Some doctors believe that the precautionary measures to prevent the Brazilian variant from spreading in France are insufficient. The Brazilian variant, says P1, would be responsible for a terrible new wave in Brazil. With more than 320,000 deaths from Covid-19 in one year, the third most bereaved country in the world behind the United States and India experienced a particularly deadly month of March.
For the moment, this variant, even more contagious than the British variant, circulates very little in France. But for how long ?
Today, flights between Brazil and France are not suspended. On the other hand, all people over 11 who arrive on our soil must, on the one hand, have an imperative reason for traveling, on the other hand submit a negative PCR test less than 72 hours. The problem for them is that the current quarantine is too short and not controlled. And the doctors reminded us that our neighbors took more precautions. Indeed, Great Britain imposes a ten-day quarantine on all passengers from Brazil, for its part Portugal has suspended its flights with the country.
This new controversy born on Twitter prompted the government to react. Sunday April 11, Clément Beaune, Secretary of State for European Affairs, tries to reassure in “the Grand Jury” on the very serious measures already taken: “There are very few arrivals: usually you have close to 50,000 people arriving from Brazil, we are at 1,000 a week today. We were very serious about closing the borders ”.
The Minister of Transport, Jean-Baptiste Djebbari completed at LCI’s microphone Monday morning that if these flights are maintained, it is because of an obligation of the Council of State. Thus, these lines remain functional “because it is imposed by law”.
