Seysses remand center saturates, guards ask for more resources

For several years, the Seysses remand center, south of Toulouse, has been “overcrowded”, accommodating more prisoners than the places provided. While the remand center exceeds the workforce of 1,000 prisoners, while 600 places were planned when it opened in 2003, it has 250 guards. It would take 30 more according to the unions.

An establishment regularly singled out for its conditions of detention. In July 2021, the controller of prisons, Dominique Simonnot, had described them as unworthy. And during the month of August, the Toulouse administrative court once again ordered the State to improve these conditions of detention in Seysses.
