Sex, ecstasy, poppers… A Belgian priest imprisoned after the death of a colleague

It is a tragic story, far from the route that ecclesiastics usually have to follow. A Belgian priest was imprisoned on Saturday after the death of another priest, according to facts reported by France Info.

Both men had taken ecstasy and poppers. The Belgian clergyman is being prosecuted for “drug dealing leading to death”.

The victim “felt bad” during the night

The victim is a 69-year-old British priest who was staying with his 60-year-old colleague in Kalmthout, a town north of Antwerp. According to France Info, the first “felt unwell, shortly after midnight. Emergency services attempted to resuscitate the man, but without success.”

According to the Antwerp public prosecutor’s office, the first findings of the police, the laboratory and the forensic doctor showed that the two men “had consumed ecstasy and poppers together and had had sexual relations”. The autopsy has not yet revealed the exact causes of death. The investigation is therefore still ongoing.
