Many countries are trying to protect women from rape better than they used to by introducing stricter laws. They go at different distances – and one country even puts the brakes on them. Five examples from Europe.

The principle of no sex without express consent already applies in 13 European countries. But a study by the human rights organization Amnesty International from 2020 confirmed that many countries on the continent still have antiquated sex criminal laws. In Germany, too, where “No means No” applies, many are dissatisfied.
