Last Saturday, the 2023 edition of the inter-school journalism football tournament (TFIEJ) took place in Faches-Thumesnil, near Lille. The event, organized by the student office (BDE) of ESJ Lille, nevertheless brought together a thousand students from 14 schools throughout the territory. It was during the private party that closed the day that several young women were drugged without their knowledge, denounced the TFIEJ organization on Tuesday.
Everything seemed to have been planned down to the smallest detail by the members of the Lille ESJ BDE, who had been preparing for this event for a long time. On the tournament side, nothing to say, the teams had their share of joy and sadness according to the matches. And to end the day in style, the thousand participants found themselves in a Lille nightclub to decompress. The evening was private and the BDE of the ESJ “worked for several months on the establishment of a system to fight against gender-based and sexual violence (VSS)”. Not only during the tournament, but also, and above all, during the evening.
All the symptoms of GHB poisoning
To enter the privatized box, you had to have a bracelet, checked by the security guards of the establishment. In the absence of a bracelet, it was necessary to be able to attest to its identity. Inside the box, “vss referents” made rounds periodically until the end of the evening. But it was not enough.
The following evening, the organizer received disturbing testimonies from students who had taken part in the evening. They described “symptoms that could suggest that they had been drugged,” said the BDE in a statement. “Trembling, memory loss, fatigue, vomiting”, some even showed “traces of bites”. So many clues that suggest intoxication with GHB, the date rape drug that has made a lot of noise in Lille nightlife.
From these testimonies, of which the BDE refuses to reveal the exact number, a report was made to the Lille police services. At the time of writing these lines, the prosecution has not confirmed to 20 minutes the opening of an investigation. All the problem of the investigators being to prove the administration of this drug which has the characteristic to disappear very quickly from the organization. Last May, if the direction of the police of the North recognized “some filings of complaint” for suspicions of intoxication with GHB, the parquet floor, him, affirmed that no file had reached the prosecutor.
