Several injured at Étoile de Bessèges – News

The second act of the Étoile de Bessèges did some damage, forcing the stewards to end the stage more than 20 kilometers from the end (read here). The ambulances had work, because the medical bulletin published by the organization announces several wounded this Thursday.

The bulletin reports three hospitalizations. They concern the Belgian Sébastien Grignard (Lotto Dstny), victim of a head trauma + multiple traumas, the Spaniard Marti Marquez (Equipo Kern Pharma), who suffered a shoulder trauma and a wrist fracture, and Valentin Tabellion (Go Sport-Roubaix Lille Métropole), who dislocated his shoulder.

Other runners are added to the list of injured. Benoit Cosnefroy suffers “a contusion on the right wrist and dermabrasions of the back, both hips, the dorsal side of the right shoulder, the two elbows and the left tibia”, informs his team, AG2R Citroën Team. Ben Healy (EF Education-Easy Post) and Morne Van Niekerk (St-Michel-Mavic-Auber 93) will both be X-rayed. The first of the hand, while the second suffers at the level of the sternum. Finally, for Romain Cardis, the medical team of the event fears a fracture in the ribs.

Of course, other runners were affected in the massive fall, but do not appear in the medical bulletin communicated by the event. Thus, Lars Van den Berg, hit in the elbow, is announced as a non-runner for the 3rd stage by his team Groupama-FDJ.
