In a tweet on Friday, the police announced “last night in Ambleteuse, Marck and Wimereux, having thwarted” three attempts at illegal sea crossings of migrants to England. “Nautical equipment was apprehended”. About forty migrants were stopped in their attempt in Ambleteuse, 70 people in Marck, 25 in Wimereux, and another group of 28 people were surprised in Le Touquet, said the Departmental Directorate of Public Security (DDSP 62).

Already the previous night, in Sangatte and on the A16 motorway, the police had intercepted “two vehicles loaded with nautical equipment and 70 migrants, according to the DDSP. These interventions also follow the dismantling last week of an Iraqi-Kurdish network of migrant smugglers to Great Britain and a large seizure of nautical equipment in the suburbs of Lille (including 13 boats capable of transporting 50 migrants each, 14 engines and 700 life jackets).
