Seniors – Council for long-term care cases and relatives – District of Munich

district – If, in old age, the general condition permanently deteriorates to such an extent that one is dependent on help or even care, those affected and relatives are often overwhelmed with the situation. The district of Munich now wants to offer even better support with a new care base. Because people are often confronted with many questions in this situation: Where can I find nurses and therapists? What kind of financial support can I get? How do I apply for a degree of care?

The district already has a wide range of advice centers for senior citizens and family carers. The free and neutral advice in a care support point is part of the overall senior policy concept, is seen as a supplement and is open to all citizens (statutory or privately insured). The employees there analyze the individual situation of the person concerned, determine the necessary support offers together with the relatives and help with their organization. The aim is to install coordinated supply and support close to home.

In addition to the district of Munich and the district of Upper Bavaria, the health and nursing insurance funds are responsible for the care support point. The institution is financially supported by the Free State of Bavaria. The planning is still at the beginning. Now it is important to clarify questions about the location, the spatial and personnel equipment, but also about the specific content design. It is planned that the “Senior Consultation Service”, which has been expanded and in great demand in the past few years, will be at least partially integrated into the new care center in the Munich District Office. The specialist office for caring relatives is intended to complement the offer. However, it will take about a year before the new offer in the Munich district comes into effect. “Nevertheless, I am glad that we set out on this today,” said District Administrator Christoph Göbel, commenting on the project. “Most people want to spend their retirement years in their familiar surroundings. The district of Munich does everything it can to support its citizens in this wish as best as possible,” said Göbel.
