Semester ticket with 99 percent discount is invalid – Bavaria

The joy of numerous Erlangen and Nuremberg students over a semester ticket sold for 2.07 euros instead of 207 euros due to a mistake was only briefly granted. The ticket should not have been sold in this way, only the approved and published tariff applies, the transport association Greater Nuremberg (VGN) announced on Wednesday. There is therefore a goodwill transitional solution – if you want to use the bus and train for half a year with the semester ticket, you have to pay the full price. The news of the supposed bargain spread like wildfire on social media on Monday and attracted masses of students to the machines. More than 50,000 students were enrolled at the participating universities in the winter semester. How many got the cheap tickets for 2.07 euros was still unclear on Wednesday.

With the ticket you can use public transport around the clock in large parts of northern Bavaria. The error only occurred on Deutsche Bahn machines, not in online sales or other machines. According to VGN, a new version of the device software was installed last Friday for reasons that are still unclear, and it was fixed on Monday. A goodwill solution was worked out together with representatives of the universities and students: You can still use the faulty card until the end of the Easter holidays on April 24th. After that, however, you need the regular card at the full price of 207 euros – for technical reasons it is not possible to offset the 2.07 euros. If you really only got big eyes because of the ridiculous price and don’t want the ticket during this transitional period, you can also return it and have the 2.07 euros refunded.
