He has already experienced floods, says shoe seller Klaus Ludwig, “but we’ve never had it to this extent”. His shoe warehouse in Selbitz in the Hof district was full early Tuesday evening, he said on the phone the morning after. The heavy rain started around four o’clock, got worse and worse, and around half past five they and six people pushed water from the camp for hours. “If everything dries now, we have to see what we are doing,” he says. Dozens of shoes were flooded, luckily the water did not flow into the sales room, but also into the shoe factory, where materials and even more shoes got wet. “That was just too much water in too short a time.”
