Wiegold considers one of the possible explanations that the rockets were misdirected to be a perfectly plausible idea. “In the past few months, we’ve seen how Russia has used up a lot of its precision ammunition and is now using a lot of rockets from its depots that just don’t hit the target as accurately and sometimes go off course,” said Wiegold.

S300 air defense system

Wiegold: Danger loomed
Wiegold assumes that the investigations have been ongoing for a long time. “One will see what debris can be secured at the point of impact.” He now sees forensic experts on the train who have to clarify whether the debris can be assigned to a weapon and where it could have come from.
He recalled that there was an incident in March that was similarly explosive for the NATO alliance. At that time, Russia bombed a training center in the western Ukrainian state of Lviv. In the course of the attack, shells fell 20 kilometers from the border with Poland. “The danger has become apparent over the past few months,” Wiegold assesses today’s incident.
Wiegold is not surprised that Russia denied any involvement immediately after the first reports of the impact. Immediately in Moscow there was talk of a fake operation that NATO itself had staged. “It moves in the rhetoric that Russia itself has used again and again.”
