FC starts on Friday Bayern Munich into the competitive game year 2023. Against Leipzig, Julian Nagelsmann’s former club, of all things, the Munich team will play the first Bundesliga game of the new year. It’s a first versus third game.
Since leaving Leipzig, the 35-year-old’s record in direct duels speaks clearly for him. The Munich team won the league twice and once in the German Supercup. RB paid dearly for the change around a year and a half ago. There have been many reports about the alleged transfer fee of 25 million euros. Nagelsmann became the most expensive coach in the world.
Nagelsmann transfer fee depends on Bayern’s future success
The transfer fee was revealed in detail in a report by “Sport Bild”. Particularly spicy: Leipzig could still collect money from Munich. However, these payments are performance-related.
According to the article, the Bayern bosses transferred a basic amount of 15 million euros in the summer of 2021. Two friendlies are said to have been agreed. Leipzig should collect the income from these test games. It should be 2.5 million euros per game – they pay five million euros Bavaria therefore not directly to RB, but earn them through these friendlies.
The bonuses still outstanding depend on Nagelsmann’s success during his time in Munich (contract until 2026). If Bayern win the league and cup double twice, RB will receive another two million euros. Leipzig would get the whole 25 million euros if Nagelsmann and his team did too Champions League wins. Then another three million euros flow.
From a purely financial point of view, the last Bayern season was not yet worthwhile for Leipzig. The Munich “only” became champions. Bayern don’t transfer anything for that. In the cup last season it was already over in the second round against Gladbach (0:5). In the Champions League, the German record champions were eliminated in the quarter-finals by Spain’s underdog Villarreal (1-2 on aggregate).
Despite the clauses and bonuses that could still be activated, the people of Leipzig will do everything to win on Friday so that the people of Munich don’t rush even further in the championship race. Bayern are currently four points ahead of Freiburg and six points ahead of Leipzig.
