Days of decision in the second Bundesliga. 1. FC Heidenheim has taken a big step towards promotion to the top flight. Jahn Regensburg, on the other hand, is likely to follow SV Sandhausen into the third division.

SV Sandhausen has been relegated to the third division. The club lost 1-0 at 1. FC Heidenheim on the penultimate matchday. For Jahn Regensburg there is also little hope of staying up in the league. The team won 2-1 at Eintracht Braunschweig, while Arminia Bielefeld scored against Paderborn (2-2). Regensburg is 17th in the table and three points behind Bielefeld – but also has a goal difference that is 15 goals worse than Bielefeld.

HSV should have a relegation place in the second Bundesliga for sure

On the other hand, there was jubilation at 1. FC Heidenheim, who are currently in second place as a result of the win and definitely have the relegation place. For the club from the 50,000-inhabitant city in Baden-Württemberg, it now depends on what HSV does against Greuther Fürth in the evening (8.30 p.m.). If the Hamburgers win a point, the fight for third place would remain open, in the event of a defeat, Heidenheim could celebrate promotion from the sofa. Heidenheim would be the 57th participant in Bundesliga history.

Fourth-placed FC St. Pauli only has a theoretical chance of contesting the relegation of their city rivals – and only if HSV loses. The Kiezkicker won 4:3 at Holstein Kiel on Friday evening.

Also on Friday evening, Darmstadt 98 secured promotion to the top flight with a 1-0 win against 1. FC Magdeburg.

On Sunday at 1.30 p.m. 1. FC Nürnberg or Hansa Rostock can still get out of range of 16th place in a direct clash. In the games Fortuna Düsseldorf against Hannover 96 and Karlsruher SC against 1. FC Kaiserslautern, it’s no longer about anything.
