Search for secret documents: FBI combs through Biden’s beach house

In the past few weeks, secret documents have appeared in the US President’s private rooms several times. Now investigators from the US Department of Justice have also searched Biden’s beach house.

The FBI combed through President Joe Biden’s beach house in search of more secret documents.

According to the lawyer, the action in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, is a planned search. The investigators received the “full support” of the President. This is “another step in a careful and expeditious” investigation by the US Department of Justice, “which we will continue to fully support and facilitate,” the attorney said.

In the past few weeks, confidential documents have repeatedly appeared in Biden’s private rooms – in Delaware and the US capital Washington. The documents date from his time as Vice President under President Barack Obama (2009 to 2017) and from his earlier time as a US Senator.

Controversial information policy

The public only found out about some of the finds when the media reported on them. The US government is therefore criticized for its information policy. The US Department of Justice has appointed a special prosecutor to investigate the case.

The affair is highly explosive for Biden, who wants to decide on a new presidential candidacy in the coming weeks or months – partly because of the parallels to his predecessor Donald Trump.

FBI agents had already searched Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in the state of Florida last August and confiscated numerous secret documents. In this case, a special prosecutor was appointed in November.

However, there are major differences between the two cases. Biden, for example, asserts that, unlike Trump, he has cooperated with the US judiciary from the start. A US law requires presidents and vice presidents to turn over all their emails, letters and other documents to the National Archives after leaving office. Only last week did it become known that secret files had also been discovered in the house of Trump’s former Vice President Mike Pence.
