Search for missing plane with three French nationals on board continues

The weather conditions are still difficult. But the search continues on Thursday to try to find a small plane with three French people on board that has been missing since Tuesday in the north-central part of Italyemergency services said.

The search is focusing on a mountainous area on the borders of Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany, more precisely between the Bocco and Uomo Morto mountains, on the Apennine chain running from north to south across Italy, the Alpine rescue services in charge of the search said in a brief statement.

Difficult rescue operations

The area was determined by tracking the cell phones of the passengers on the missing plane, a spokesman told AFP. Rescue operations have been made particularly difficult by the weather conditions in the region, which has been hit by severe weather caused by Storm Boris.

At an altitude of 1,700 metres, the visibility of rescuers is limited to 5 metres. The plane took off on Tuesday from Paolucci airport near Modena (Emilia-Romagna) heading for France and search operations were launched on Tuesday evening.
