Sea Shepherd files complaint after dead dolphin found in trash can

Horrible discovery. Monday, the body of a dolphin was found in a trash can, in the district of Tréboul, in Douarnenez (Finistère), reports Sea Sheperd France, which published this Wednesday on its social networks a photo taken by a resident.

“The way he was cut up leaves no doubt that his flesh was consumed, which is strictly prohibited,” says the ocean defense NGO, which announces that it will file a complaint for “mutilation of ‘protected species “.

A scarified dolphin discovered in February

Sea Shepherd France has been denouncing for several years the accidental captures of dolphins by fishing gear and the mutilations to which cetaceans are victims. On February 18, during a patrol off Les Sables-d’Olonne (Vendée), members of the NGO discovered a scarified dolphin with the inscription “Sea Shepherd PD” engraved with a knife on the body.

The NGO had then promised a bonus of 10,000 euros for “any testimony allowing the identification and conviction” of the perpetrator(s) of the mutilations. “None of our dozens of complaints about dolphins captured and not declared, mutilated, eaten, scarified has ever resulted in the slightest conviction”, explained Sea Sheperd France to justify its approach.
