Sea of lights and mulled wine: ten Christmas markets that are worthwhile in 2022

“Oh du Fröhliche”: After years of restrictions, the Christmas markets in Germany are finally open again this year without corona measures. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a family outing, with work colleagues or friends – a visit to the Christmas market is therefore an integral part of the pre-Christmas program for many people.

Every year more than 1500 Christmas markets open throughout Germany, from the historic village market to the lively Christmas market in the capital, everything is there. However, the large selection often makes the decision for this year’s Christmas market more difficult. If you don’t want to go to the local Christmas market but want to gather a few new impressions, you’re spoiled for choice. In the Bilderstreit we show you ten Christmas markets that are particularly worthwhile this year.

Christmas stollen and Christmas record holders

For example, the Nuremberg Christmas market has reopened for the first time in years. It is one of the most well-known markets in Germany – and also beyond the national borders. A trip to the Dresden Striezelmarkt is not only worthwhile because of the delicious Dresden Christmas Stollen, and in Rostock visitors can get to know a Christmas record holder.

By the way: If you want to visit the largest Christmas market in Germany, you will find it in Stuttgart and Nuremberg. Measured by the number of visitors, however, Cologne is the most popular.
