As a person who understands Putin, he has done almost everything wrong, but as chancellor he has also made a lot of progress. It does not do justice to his life’s work to see Gerhard Schröder only as “Gas-Gerd”.
One can accuse Gerhard Schröder of a lot, of being too close to Putin, of being a Gazprom lobbyist, which is unworthy of a former chancellor. But inside and outside the SPD, the popular “Gas-Gerd” bashing mostly forgets that he used to do a great job for the country and his party.
