Schools, town planning, museums, sports, here are the major projects for 2022

With the “Marseille en Grand” plan, the city will be able to speed up several of its major projects. If 2021 was marked in particular by the end of works at La Plaine, the requalifications of Cours Lieutaud and Jarret, the year 2022 must trigger a new dynamic in schools and transport, where expectations are high. 20 minutes make the point.

Renovation of schools : This was the big subject of the year 2021, and one of the main axes of the Marseille en Grand plan. “These are 17 major school renovation projects that will begin in 2022”, welcomed the mayor Benoît Payan on Friday, during his back-to-school press conference. Among these schools, where the work will take place this summer, are those of Aygalades Oasis (15th), Bouge (13th) or Emile Vayssières 1 (14th). The extension of the Abeilles (1st) and Saint-Louis Gare (15th) schools is also on the agenda.

Travel : The requalification of Place Castellane, which will eventually be semi-pedestrian, has started to accommodate the extension of the T3 tramway to La Gaye in the south. Surface work will begin in the fall. The metropolis has also announced the start of work to extend T3 to Gèze in the north from 2022, all for implementation in 2026. On the car side, work to almost double the capacity of the La Fourragère parking lot began at the start January, for a period of 16 months. In addition, the Cap Janet international ferry terminal should be inaugurated in 2022, and put an end to noise pollution in the Basket as well as to smoke emissions: the new terminal will allow the electrification of boats at the quayside.

Environment : The city will devote in 2022 a budget of three million euros to redevelop six parks and gardens. The mayor of Marseille cited several on Friday: “The garden of the Barquière in the 9th arrondissement, the Place Caire (12th), the Guigou garden (3rd), the Carli garden (1st), the shared garden of Air Bel ( 11e) ”. Expected already in 2021, the opening of the Porte d’Aix park does not yet have a specific date.

Cultural and sporting life: The renovation of the contemporary art museum is in its home stretch, a reopening is announced in the spring. It is the same for the replica of the Cosquer cave, at the Villa Méditerranée. In a more food sector, the project of the large halls of the Old Port is also expected for this period, with an area of ​​2,000 m² on the Cours d’Estienne d’Orves. At Busserine (14th), work on the sports and recreation area is due to begin in 2022 thanks to state funding, as well as renovations to the social center of Busserine and that of Castellane (16th).

Health : “Cap 2030” is the name of the AP-HM modernization project for which the State now allocates 238 million euros, which are added to the funding of local communities. From 2022, work will begin. At La Timone, the work will concern the “sick tower”, while the North hospital will tackle intensive care. Without forgetting the redevelopment work in progress at the Conception.
