Controversy around video refereeing in football, episode 952… Stéphane Moulin, Angers coach, considered “scandalous” the cancellation of a goal of his team during the home defeat against Rennes (0- 3), Saturday in Ligue 1.

Shortly before half-time, when the teams were at 0-0, Angevin striker Stéphane Bahoken took advantage of a ball from Alfred Gomis on a candle clearance to score, but the goal was canceled for a very slight obstruction on the Rennes goalkeeper. The Bretons opened the scoring two minutes later and won 3-0.

“The problem is that it often falls on us”

“There is no fault”, hammered Moulin in front of the press. “That the referee is wrong at the moment, that can be understood. But it is scandalous that the error is confirmed with the images ”. “Thank you VAR !, he quipped. I, who am a fan of VAR, am reconsidering my decision, ”he added.

“There have been other examples and the problem is that it often falls on us”, explained the Angevin coach, referring to the exit of the OL porter Anthony Lopes, knee and crampons forward, in the back of Romain Thomas in November. “Our player gets screwed by the Lyon goalkeeper, there is nothing at all. And there our player does not move, he looks at the ball in the air, he does not even jump, and there is a fault! », He insisted.

Genesio evokes “a fact of the game”

Rennes coach Bruno Genesio, for his part, admitted that the fault seemed slight: “It’s a game of play, sometimes it benefits us, sometimes it is to our detriment, it’s like that”.

“We were beaten by a team that is superior to us, but it could have turned out otherwise,” said Moulin, recalling that between the injuries and Covid-19, he had to do without 10 potentially titular players. The Angevin coach, who recently announced his intention to leave the club after 10 seasons at the head of the pro team, asked his players to “put this game in the trash” to now focus on another challenge of size: a quarter-final of the Coupe de France against PSG on Wednesday at the Parc des Princes.
