Scandal over jury behaviour at the International Literature Prize – Culture

The scandal surrounding the jury’s conduct at the International Literature Prize should also lead to the conclusion being drawn at the “House of World Cultures” in Berlin: an end to confidentiality when it comes to literature.

Regardless of what the jurors hope to achieve during their meetings, a literary prize jury does not meet in a doctor’s office or a confessional. Nor does it have to. In order for doctors and priests to be able to do their work, you must be able to tell them everything – the intimate, the reprehensible, the illegal. This does not apply to literary prize juries.
