Saxony is planning to relax the corona rules for culture and sport

With the new Corona Protection Ordinance, Saxony wants to introduce far-reaching easing. The key points of the planned rules were presented at a press conference on Friday evening.

As Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU) announced, the latest resolutions of the deliberations between the federal and state governments have been taken into account. Saxony will play it safe and have built in an additional “safety margin” everywhere.

These new corona rules are planned:

Depending on the number of infections and bed occupancy in hospitals, there should be easing for cultural institutions, sports and ski areas, among other things.

Incidence-independent rules:

  • Fixed meetings can be attended by up to 200 people (up to now there were 10 people)
  • 2G + in gastronomy
  • Extracurricular education and sports can now be used by people up to the age of 18 (previously the limit was 16 years)
  • Body-hugging services can open under 2G. Hairdressers are still allowed to open with 3G.

What does 2G + mean?
2G + means that only vaccinated and recovered people who also have a daily corona rapid test can use the corresponding offer.

The additional rapid test is not required as soon as the person can also prove a booster vaccination or a person who has been vaccinated twice has an additional proof of recovery that is no more than three months old. Even people who have been double-vaccinated and whose second vaccination is at least 14 days and a maximum of three months old do not need an additional rapid test.

Exceptions to the 2G + rule apply to people up to the age of 18 and people who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons.

Relaxation below the overload level:

The overload level in Saxony applies if the incidence of 1,500 has been exceeded or the bed occupancy with Covid-19 patients in the normal wards of the hospitals exceeds 1,300 or the bed occupancy with Covid-19 patients in the intensive care units of the hospitals exceeds 420. As soon as the overload level applies, cultural institutions and hotels, for example, have to close again.

Currently, 997 people in Saxony have to be treated in normal wards for a Covid 19 disease. This emerges from the data published by the Ministry of Social Affairs. According to the intensive care register of the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine (DIVI), 393 people with Covid-19 are currently in intensive care units. This would currently meet the requirements for the relaxation of the Corona rules.

If the overload level falls below three days in a row, the following relaxation should apply from the day after next:

  • Meetings can be attended by up to 1,000 people and do not have to take place in a fixed location
  • Services such as travel agencies or insurance offices are allowed to open under 2G
  • Gastronomy is allowed to open under 2G + until 10 p.m.
  • Solariums are allowed to open below 2G
  • Museums, memorials and exhibitions are allowed to open under 2G and a restriction of visitors according to a square meter regulation (as in retail)
  • Cultural and leisure facilities, such as cinemas or theaters, are allowed to open under 2G + and a maximum number of visitors of 50 percent of the capacity. A maximum number of 250 people is discussed.
  • Trade fairs are allowed to open below 2G + and a maximum number of visitors of 50 percent of the capacity. The maximum number of visitors should be 1,000 people.
  • Sports facilities may open outside under 2G and inside under 2G +. This rule also applies to the ski areas. Organized club sports can take place without a person limit; in the case of fitness studios, the person limit is set by the hygiene concept.
  • Opening of hotels, holiday apartments, campsites and tourist bus and train journeys are permitted under 2G +
  • Education, training and further education institutions as well as music, art and dance schools can open under 2G

Hotspot regulation

If the 7-day incidence in a county or urban district rises above 1,500, the hotspot rule applies. Then all easing that should be possible below the overload level does not apply to the affected region.

In addition, the nightly exit restrictions should then come into force again. Gastronomic establishments have to close.

These rules should remain unchanged:

  • Contact restrictions
  • 2G rule in retail
  • 3G rule in churches
  • Alcohol ban
  • Large events with over 1,000 visitors remain prohibited
  • Clubs, discos, bars and saunas will remain closed
  • Obligation to wear FFP2 masks indoors that are open to the public

The new rules are expected to come into force on January 14, 2022 and apply until February 6. The regulation is to be passed in the cabinet next Wednesday.
