Saving Music Lessons: That’s Impacting Reading and Writing – Culture

Why are there still music lessons, many politicians ask, when many students can’t even read and write? Exactly for that reason.

Lamentations about the decline in school education have been heard throughout the country for decades, and education statistics regularly trigger horror. While the need for renovation of school buildings is rarely questioned (although little is done to prevent their deterioration), individual school subjects are always up for discussion. Especially the music lessons. German and mathematics are a matter of course, but music is apparently considered an expendable pastime. As if they could be neglected when it comes to the harsh conditions of survival in an increasingly uncertain present and future.
