Heavy fighting continues, particularly in Donbass, according to Ukrainian sources. Meanwhile, the death toll after a rocket hit has risen in Zaporizhia.

After a Russian rocket hit a residential building in the southern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhia, two more dead were recovered by Friday morning. This was announced by the Ukrainian civil defense. The death toll after Thursday’s attack rose to at least four.

Eight people in the multi-storey building were injured. Several residents were also missing. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced retaliation in his evening video address on Thursday.

According to local authorities on Friday morning, two civilians were killed by Russian shelling in the Donetsk region. Regarding the military situation, the Ukrainian general staff announced that heavy fighting continued, particularly in Donbass in the east of the country. Over the past 24 hours, 85 Russian attacks have been repelled. This military information could not be independently verified. The Kupyansk, Liman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Wuhledar front sectors were also named as the location of the battles.

Kiev reports continued heavy fighting for Bakhmut

Russian troops continued their assaults against Bakhmut. “The enemy is still trying to encircle the city,” the Ukrainian general staff said in its daily situation report in the evening. A series of attacks on various focal points around Bakhmut were repelled by the Ukrainian defenders.

The Russian military has been trying to capture the city for weeks. The head of the Russian Wagner mercenary force deployed there, Yevgeny Prigozhin, said on Friday that his fighters had almost completely encircled the city. The information could not be independently verified.

The city, which once had 74,000 inhabitants, is now largely destroyed. According to estimates by the authorities, around 5,000 civilians still live in Bakhmut.
