Russia: At least two police officers killed in attack on church, synagogue and police station in Russian region of Dagestan

Multiple shootings caused the death of police officers in the North Caucasus this Sunday.

Gunmen fired at a synagogue, an Orthodox church and a police station in Russia’s Dagestan region in the North Caucasus on Sunday, killing at least three people including two police officers, local authorities said.

Thirteen people were also injured in the attacks, official Russian news agencies reported, citing the local Interior Ministry. A priest and a police officer were killed in shootings at a synagogue and a church in Derbent, home to UNESCO World Heritage sites.

“Unidentified people fired automatic weapons at a synagogue and a church,” the Interior Ministry said. A fire broke out in the synagogue after the attack, according to the Russian state press.

Separately, another police officer was killed after an exchange of gunfire at a police station in Makhachkala, where incidents were later reported on the street.
