Rules for employees: Altmaier for querying the vaccination status

Status: 11/12/2021 5:08 p.m.

Economics Minister Altmaier has spoken out in favor of employers being allowed to query the vaccination status of their employees. With a view to 3G in the workplace, Minister of Labor Heil wants to speak to employers and unions.

In connection with the planned 3G rule in the workplace, employers should be able to query the vaccination status of their employees from the point of view of the managing minister of economics, Peter Altmaier. In doing so, the CDU politician stood behind the demands of business associations.

Altmaier said it was important in the interests of the health of all employees that the employer had this information. You have to show your vaccination status when you go to a restaurant, for example.

Law to 3G in the workplace on the way

The Bundestag introduced a law for new corona measures on Thursday. In the upcoming parliamentary deliberations, the traffic light parties want to include the 3G rule in the workplace. This means: only those who have been vaccinated or recovered or who have a daily negative corona test should be able to go to work in the future.

However, essential questions are still unresolved. A 3G rule at the workplace only makes sense with a right to information, said the chief executive of the Confederation of German Employers’ Associations, Steffen Kampeter. The German Trade Union Confederation rejects the obligation of employees to provide information about their own vaccination status.

Heil wants to speak to unions and employers

Federal Labor Minister Hubertus Heil (SPD) announced talks with unions and employers with a view to the planned 3G rule. “We can only ensure effective protection and more vaccinations if employees, companies and the state work together,” he told the “Rheinische Post”. The measures taken so far have not been sufficient to reduce the incidence of infections. “That is why it is right to maintain the requirements for operational protection against infection such as the mask requirement, contact reduction, the obligation to test offers and the obligation to create operational hygiene concepts.”

Heil defended the planned 3G rule in the workplace. This is necessary because the vaccination rate is still insufficient and the number of unvaccinated people is still high. It is also necessary to avoid both the closure of daycare centers and schools and a renewed restriction of the economy.
