Crown Prince Frederik and his family motivated thousands of Danes to run again this Monday.

The Danish Crown Prince Frederik (54) invited again to the Royal Run on Whit Monday (May 29). The fun run, which was originally launched for the Crown Prince’s 50th birthday, is still very popular today. Around 93,000 people signed up according to the organizer registered for the event, which takes place at various locations including Aabenraa, Herning, Nyborg, Nykøbing Falster and Copenhagen/Frederiksberg.

The Royal Run is open to everyone, regardless of age or fitness level on the website is explained. The runners can choose between three distances: one mile (1.6 km), 5 km and 10 km. Children, young people, adults and older people can be accompanied on the popular family mile; wheelchairs and prams are welcome.

Royal Run is a family project

Crown Prince Frederik usually doesn’t miss out on the day and so this time he visited several towns to get in touch with the runners and run several distances. Crown Princess Mary (51) supported her husband on the day and stopped in Nyborg and Nykøbing Falster independently of him.

The sporting ambition has apparently also been transferred to the couple’s children. Prince Christian (17), Princess Isabella (16) and the twins Josephine and Vincent of Denmark, born in 2011, completed the family mile in Copenhagen. On pictures of their run the four seem strained, but also show a happy smile after the round.

While the new generation jogged through the day, Queen Margrethe II (83) followed what was happening in front of the television screen, as the royal family also revealed on Instagram. “Her Majesty the Queen follows the Royal Run from Fredensborg Castle – and not least the participation of the grandchildren creates excitement,” says the photo that shows the 83-year-old sitting in front of the TV.
