The German Rowing Association (DRV) once again has a one-man rider of international top stature. With her surprising victory at the World Cup final in Lucerne, Alexandra Föster saved the DRV fleet from a failed dress rehearsal for the home European Championships in Munich.

The German Rowing Association (DRV) once again has a one-man rider of international top stature. With her surprising victory at the World Cup final in Lucerne, Alexandra Föster saved the DRV fleet from a failed dress rehearsal for the home European Championships in Munich.

The 20-year-old talent from Meschede finished in front of Tara Rigney (Australia) and Jeanine Gmelin (Switzerland) after a brilliant final sprint.

Five weeks before the continental title fights on the 1972 Olympic course in Oberschleißheim, further DRV successes in the 14 Olympic classes failed to materialize. The Germany eight around batsman Mattes Schönherr (Potsdam) had to be content with third place behind Great Britain and Australia. Marc Weber (Marburg) provided another podium place as third in the singles final. The remaining DRV boats went empty-handed. Seven final runs alone took place without German participation.
