There are several injured: In a regional train from Kiel to Hamburg, an attacker attacked travelers with a knife. The man was arrested.

In Schleswig-Holstein, a man attacked travelers with a knife on a regional train, injuring at least seven of them.

The attacker was overwhelmed by police officers at Brokstedt station (Steinburg district) between Hamburg and Neumünster, the federal police said, according to the DPA news agency.

Knife attack on the train from Kiel to Hamburg

The train of the regional express line 70 was on the way from the Schleswig-Holstein state capital Kiel in the direction of Hamburg, it was said. Shortly before arriving at Brokstedt, the man attacked the passengers around 3 p.m. The “Kieler Nachrichten” reported about the incident first. An eyewitness told the newspaper that passengers panicked.

According to DB Regio Schleswig-Holstein, several trains were canceled or delayed on the connection between the two cities. A rail replacement service should be set up. The affected train station was closed. Pictures from on site showed a large contingent of rescue and police forces.

Further information on the identity of the arrested person, a possible motive for the crime and the condition of the injured were not initially available.
