Rottweil arson trial: twin brother testifies against Dennis B

A 38-year-old is said to have killed his mother and injured his brother when he set fire to their home. On the last day of the hearing of evidence, a psychiatrist and the accused’s brother testified about the night of the crime – but there was a gap.

Rottweil District Court, session room 201: “Are there any questions for the witnesses?” Asks the judge. “We heard very one-sided descriptions,” says the accused Dennis B. before the judge interrupts him. “You must ask a question.” Dennis B. starts again: “I’m sorry about what happened, I hope you can forgive me someday.” His brother, Benjamin B., is silent. Seconds pass that feel like minutes. Until he replies: “I don’t have a brother anymore. Some things cannot be forgiven.”
