Fire extinguished on wrecked oil tanker “Annika” in the Baltic Sea

The fire that broke out on the tanker “Annika”, which was loaded with more than 600 tons of oil, has been extinguished. “There is no longer any fire burning,” said the accident command.
According to the information, the tanker “Annika” had previously entered the harbor with two tugboats Rostock was towed. He was therefore maneuvered to a berth with four tugs. In total, the 28-kilometer route took around six and a half hours.

The fire on the tanker loaded with 640 tons of oil broke out on Friday morning about four and a half kilometers off the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Baltic Sea coast between Warnemünde and Kühlungsborn. According to the accident command, the fire started in the engine room of the 73 meter long ship after an initial assessment by the fire department. The firefighters were brought to the ship by helicopter. According to the accident command, no oil leaked.

The seven crew members of the German-flagged ship were rescued and brought ashore by a rescue boat. According to the accident command, they were taken to hospitals as a precaution, and several sailors suffered minor injuries. According to the command’s statement in the evening, the crew members have now been released from the hospital.
