Role reversal
RTL presenter Jana Wosnitza plays in “Unter uns”
She has a lot of experience with cameras, but no experience with scripts: sports reporter Jana Wosnitza is acting in a soap opera and has respect for the task.
Wosnitza is looking forward to it, as she says: “‘Unter Uns’ is an authority on German television. It’s not for nothing that the series has been on for 30 years. For me, as a Cologne native, it’s nice that ‘Unter Uns’ is both filmed in Cologne and set in Cologne. In outdoor scenes, you always recognize familiar parts of the city.”
A camera doesn’t throw her off track
The presenter says she can benefit from her main job. “A camera in front of me doesn’t throw me off track per se, it helps. But acting is a craft that you have to learn.” The two professions, presenting and acting, cannot be compared.
“That’s why I was very excited and full of anticipation when I got the request,” said Wosnitza. “For sports broadcasts, I always present live shows, so I have exactly one take. If something doesn’t go well, you have to improvise and react spontaneously. In acting, it’s the exact opposite. You have a script, there are lines, every scene is meticulously planned, you can start more often.”
“Maybe I’ll like it”
RTL asked the presenter about possible plans to take up a permanent position in the acting industry. Her answer: “I’m not a trained actress and I prefer to leave that to those who can. But who knows, maybe I’ll enjoy it, but as of now I’d rather stick with presenting.”
She has never had any bad experiences as a woman showing off her knowledge of sports. “Quite the opposite, male friends and family members really enjoy it when I host a Bundesliga barbecue or ask about the next stadium visit, and I’m also the one who organizes the tickets and the day,” says Wosnitza. “I also love talking about football, soccer or darts in my private life and I never encounter any resistance.”
“Unter uns” runs from Monday to Friday at 5.30 p.m. on RTL.
